‘Hiroki Totoki Assumes Temporary Role as PlayStation CEO’

Sony president Hiroki Totoki is set to take on the role of PlayStation CEO as Jim Ryan steps down after over 30 years with the company. While Totoki will continue his broader business responsibilities, his primary focus will be on identifying a suitable successor for Ryan and shaping the future direction of PlayStation.

Although Totoki’s tenure is expected to be temporary, he has expressed a willingness to explore multi-platform strategies, including ventures into PC and mobile gaming. Known for his analytical approach, Totoki has emphasized the importance of driving profit margins for Sony’s gaming division.

Ryan cited the challenges of frequent international travel as a factor in his decision to retire. Reflecting on his time with Sony, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work on products that have impacted millions around the world. In turn, Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida praised Ryan’s leadership, particularly during the successful launch of the PlayStation 5 amid the global pandemic.

As Totoki assumes the role of PlayStation CEO, he faces the task of building on the foundation laid by Ryan and steering the brand towards continued success in the ever-evolving gaming industry.
