Harland & Wolff to Construct Port Facilities in Falkland Islands

Harland & Wolff Awarded Contract for Falkland Islands Port Facility

Harland & Wolff has been selected as the preferred bidder by the Falkland Islands Government (FIG) to assist in the development of the islands’ port facility, known as FIPASS.

The announcement of this decision came after a meeting of the FIG Executive Council earlier this month. The contract is valued between £100 and £120 million.

It is noteworthy that Harland & Wolff has a history of collaboration with the Falkland Islands, having constructed the six linked barges that currently make up the islands’ port facility over 40 years ago. The FIPASS project will involve the construction, transportation, and installation of four floating pontoons, each approximately 90 meters in length.

While the full details of the contract are still being finalized, Harland & Wolff has indicated that it will have the flexibility to carry out the construction work at its four sites in Belfast, Appledore, Arnish, and Methil.
