Growth in China’s cross-border e-commerce trade increases by 9.6% in the first quarter

China’s cross-border e-commerce trade saw significant growth in the first quarter of this year, reaching 577.6 billion yuan (about 81.3 billion U.S. dollars), which is a 9.6 percent increase from the previous year, according to the Ministry of Commerce (MOC).

The ministry also highlighted the rapid growth in e-commerce imports and exports with Silk Road e-commerce partner countries like Hungary, the United Arab Emirates, Cambodia, and Brazil. This increase in trade reflects the accelerating pace of international cooperation in e-commerce.

In a first-time initiative, the MOC organized Chinese e-commerce platforms to conduct roadshows in foreign countries, connecting Chinese e-commerce firms with more than 60 small and medium-sized enterprises in Italy. This initiative aims to further strengthen partnerships and collaborations in the e-commerce sector.

Additionally, the national online retail sales in the first quarter reached 3.3 trillion yuan, marking a 12.4 percent year-on-year increase. The MOC noted that service consumption continued to lead the growth in online retail sales, indicating a positive trend in the e-commerce market.
