‘Growing Collaboration Between UAE and NASA in Expanding Human Space Exploration’

Senior officials from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United States (US) highlighted their shared achievements in astronaut training, missions aboard the ISS, and the development of the “Gateway” Lunar Space Station. The officials spoke at a briefing in Washington, D.C., emphasizing their commitment to expanding cooperation and advancing scientific and technical collaboration in human space exploration and aeronautics research.

The UAE and US were original signatories of the Artemis Accords, a set of principles guiding space exploration cooperation among nations involved in NASA’s lunar exploration program. UAE Space Agency’s Director General, H.E. Salem Butti Al Qubaisi, stressed the importance of international cooperation in space for scientific progress and development. The partnerships with NASA, the Federal Aviation Administration, and other US research institutions aim to enhance safety and security in space, expand international scientific research, and innovate new technologies for the betterment of humanity.

National Space Council Executive Secretary Chirag Parikh underscored the broadening US-UAE partnership, extending beyond human spaceflight to include Earth observation, climate resiliency, and exploration of Mars and the Asteroid Belt. The event featured discussions among senior government officials from both countries, including Emirati astronauts and experts, diplomats, current and former US government officials, scientists, and business executives.

The event showcased the significant strides made through the partnership and highlighted potential areas for further collaboration. The shared vision and strategy between the UAE and the US demonstrate a strong commitment to advancing space exploration and fostering scientific achievements.
