“Global Celebration at Westminster Cafe”

The University of Westminster to Celebrate Wesak Day in Tibetan Style

Wesak, also known as Buddha Day, is a significant event that commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and passing of the Buddha. This year, the University of Westminster is celebrating Wesak the Tibetan way, with a series of enriching activities and cultural experiences.

The event will feature highlights such as Tibetan Buddhist prayers and chanting, led by a select group from the Tibetan Community in Britain. Participants will have the opportunity to experience the spiritual richness of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Additionally, a Tibetan singing bowl meditation session will be led by Kunchok Nyima, a former Tibetan monk, who will guide attendees through the transformative power of the Tibetan singing bowl to cultivate wisdom and inner peace. Attendees can also take home a piece of Tibetan culture with goody bags filled with Tibetan cultural artifacts.

Organized by the University of Westminster’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion team in collaboration with Tibet Society, this event is part of the World in Westminster Festival series. The festival aims to celebrate diversity and inclusivity by showcasing various cultural events, including Diwali, Hannukah, Yalda Night, Nowruz, Ramadan, and Passover. The event is sponsored by the QHT funded EDI programme “Community and Communities: Being Westminster 2023-2024.”

Kunchok Nyima, with over 15 years of monastic practice and a deep understanding of Tibetan Buddhist tradition, believes in the transformative power of the Tibetan singing bowl as a tool for cultivating wisdom and inner peace.

Join the University of Westminster in this special celebration of Wesak Day and experience the richness of local and global diversity. The event will take place at The Pavilion, 115 New Cavendish St, London, W1W 6UW.
