Geological Museum to Host Fossil Fish Festival on April 20

The University of Wyoming Geological Museum is gearing up to host the annual Fossil Fish Festival on Saturday, April 20. The festival, which is free to attend and open to the public, will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Attendees will have the opportunity to delve into Wyoming’s rich paleontological history, with a focus on the state fossil, Knightia. Activities include learning about the fossilization process, preparing fossil fish, crafting fossil-inspired bracelets, and more.

Laura Vietti, the museum and collections manager, is excited to invite people to explore the underwater world of prehistoric Wyoming. She promises a day filled with kid-friendly, educational, and interactive activities that showcase Wyoming’s world-renowned fossil fish deposits from the Green River Formation in Kemmerer.

The event is made possible by the collaboration between the UW Geological Museum, the UW Science Kitchen, and the Wyoming State Geological Survey.
