‘Gaia Installation by Luke Jerram to be Featured at Birkenhead Park in May’

The organizers of Wirral’s Borough of Culture program are bringing a unique and awe-inspiring exhibition to Birkenhead Park at the end of May. Artist Luke Jerram’s ‘Gaia’ exhibition, showcasing a three-dimensional representation of the Earth, will be on display for three days. This seven-meter diameter installation, created from detailed NASA imagery, will allow visitors to see our planet up close and in three dimensions.

Luke Jerram expressed his excitement about Gaia being part of Wirral’s cultural program, highlighting the importance of experiencing Earth from a different perspective. The event coincided with World Earth Day, marking Wirral’s celebration as Liverpool City Region Borough of Culture. Collaborating with ‘Walk the Plank,’ Wirral Council is planning a series of activities inspired by local heritage and aiming to engage residents in creative endeavors.

Senior Producer at Walk the Plank, Bev Ayre, expressed enthusiasm for bringing their unique magic to Wirral’s cultural program. The ‘Gaia’ exhibition will be available for viewing in Birkenhead Park from May 28th to 30th, complementing Luke Jerram’s previous work displayed during Wirral’s Borough of Culture in 2019. The location of Birkenhead Park, a potential UNESCO World Heritage Site, adds to the significance of hosting the exhibition in such a historic setting.

Local artists and community groups are eager to participate in the cultural events surrounding ‘Gaia,’ promising a diverse and engaging program for residents and visitors alike. The full schedule of events will be announced closer to the exhibition dates on visitwirral.com. Join in the celebration of culture, art, and the beauty of our planet at Birkenhead Park this May.
