Food and Drink Festival Kicks Off with Cheese Awards

The Bath & West Food and Drink Festival has kicked off this year with the British Cheese Awards, happening ahead of the weekend’s festivities. The event, held at the Bath and West Showground in Shepton Mallet, features a wide variety of cheeses from Great Britain and Ireland, showcasing traditional and unique flavors.

This year, the competition celebrates its 28th edition with 63 judges evaluating over 600 cheese entries. The categories include 76 cheddars, 42 territorial cheeses, 48 blue cheeses, 36 soft white cheeses, 62 added flavor cheeses, 19 fresh cheeses, 53 modern cheeses, and 25 new cheeses. A total of 81 producers are participating, with 67 from England, 5 from Ireland, 3 from Scotland, and 6 from Wales.

Organizers praise the British Cheese Awards as a highlight of the festival, providing visitors with the chance to sample award-winning cheeses from across the region. The event is set to be one of the largest showcases of cheese in the nation, drawing cheese lovers and producers from all over.
