‘First lineup released for Meltdown Festival at the Southbank Centre’

Chaka Khan’s highly anticipated Meltdown festival is set to showcase a diverse lineup of artists from jazz, R&B, soul, and more, all paying homage to the legendary singer’s 50-year career. The festival will kick off with two special performances by Chaka Khan herself, opening and closing the event. At the closing show, she will join forces with the Nu Civilisation Orchestra for a live rendition of her 2004 album “ClassiKhan” recorded at Abbey Road Studios.

The Royal Festival Hall will host a range of performances, including Todrick Hall, Brixton’s Speakers Corner Quartet collaborating with the Guildhall Orchestra, Incognito celebrating 45 years of their debut album “Jazz Funk,” and rising artist Lady Blackbird. Trip hop duo Morcheeba will also take the stage with support from Cardinal Black.

Over at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, audiences can expect special appearances from Rahsaan Patterson, Mica Paris, Judi Jackson, and the House Gospel Choir, along with a performance by the West African ensemble, Balimaya Project.

In a unique opportunity, Chaka Khan is inviting London-based Black and Black mixed heritage female and non-binary young people aged 18-25 to join a special choir led by artist Tawiah. Participants will have the chance to perform alongside internationally renowned artists, both on stage and behind the scenes throughout the festival.
