First Electric Range Rover with Sleek All-Black Prototype Design

Range Rover has recently unveiled its first electric vehicle (EV) after rigorous testing in Sweden’s Arctic region. The initial prototype of the electric Range Rover boasts a sleek all-black design that underscores the high-quality manufacturing standards while staying true to the brand’s distinctive aesthetic.

The development of this groundbreaking vehicle followed a year of intensive computer-aided design and component optimization, resulting in the most advanced and silent Range Rover model to date. Field testing of the EV took place in some of the world’s harshest climates, including the extreme temperatures of -100°F in the Arctic Circle and 122°F in the deserts of the Middle East.

The heart of the Range Rover’s electric powertrain lies in the technology designed and constructed by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), marking a significant integration of cutting-edge technologies for the brand. Focus during testing was on the battery and Electric Drive Unit (EDU) to ensure reliable performance in adverse weather conditions.

One of the standout innovations in the Range Rover Electric is its sophisticated traction control system. This technology reduces torque reaction times at each wheel from 100 milliseconds to just 1 millisecond by delegating wheel slip management to individual electric drive control units. This enhancement allows the vehicle to navigate smoothly on slippery or icy surfaces like never before.

To enhance performance further, JLR has developed proprietary software that optimizes wheel slip control by adjusting the EDU speed, reducing the reliance on anti-lock brake systems. This results in improved grip on various terrains, providing a responsive and refined driving experience for customers.

Thomas Mueller, Executive Director of Product Engineering, emphasizes that the Range Rover Electric will offer all the luxurious amenities synonymous with the brand, coupled with the quiet and seamless performance of an electric vehicle. With this groundbreaking development, Range Rover is poised to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle market.
