Expansion of Green Chargers in Dubai to Drive Electric Vehicle Adoption

Dubai’s commitment to sustainability and clean transportation has taken a significant step forward with the partnership between the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and Parkin, the leading paid public parking provider in the emirate. This collaboration aims to expand the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in Dubai through DEWA’s “EV Green Charger” initiative.

Through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), DEWA and Parkin will strategically place EV charging stations in prime locations across Dubai, leveraging Parkin’s vast network of over 197,000 parking spaces. This partnership not only aims to enhance the EV charging experience but also to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in the city.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, expressed the importance of this collaboration in supporting the government’s efforts to enhance the EV infrastructure and provide easy access to charging facilities using the latest technologies.

The expansion of the Green Charger network aligns with Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to position the emirate as a global hub for clean energy and green technologies. By promoting the adoption of EVs, Dubai is also contributing to improved air quality and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

In addition to supporting environmental responsibility, the partnership between DEWA and Parkin addresses a key concern for EV owners – range anxiety. By strategically placing charging stations in convenient locations, residents and visitors can confidently choose electric vehicles, knowing they can easily recharge their cars throughout the city.

The increasing popularity of EVs in Dubai is evident, with over 15,000 registered users for the DEWA Green Charger initiative by the end of March 2024. Since its launch in 2015, the Green Charger program has delivered approximately 26,000 MWh of electricity for charging EVs, reducing carbon emissions and positively impacting Dubai’s environmental footprint.

Overall, the collaboration between DEWA and Parkin signifies a significant milestone in Dubai’s journey towards a sustainable future. By expanding the Green Charger network and promoting EV adoption, Dubai is on track to becoming a leading city in clean transportation.
