Expansion of ‘EV Green Charger’ Network Across Dubai through DEWA Partnership

DEWA and Parkin have come together to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the goal of expanding the EV ‘Green Charger’ stations in Dubai. This move is part of an effort to promote sustainability and enhance the electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in the city.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, underscored the UAE’s dedication to green mobility. He emphasized that this commitment aligns with both national policies and Dubai’s Green Mobility Strategy 2030. The initiative not only supports climate action but also reflects Dubai’s increasing adoption of electric vehicles.

Al Tayer pointed out that the MoU is in line with Dubai’s sustainability goals. By enhancing the EV infrastructure and supporting the Quality of Life and Social Agenda strategies, this partnership will play a crucial role in advancing Dubai’s Green Mobility Strategy and economic agenda. Parkin, with its extensive parking network, seeks to facilitate the adoption of EVs, contributing to sustainability and providing enhanced customer experiences.

Since 2015 up until the end of March 2024, DEWA’s EV Green Charger initiative has made significant strides in providing around 26,000 MWh of electricity for charging EVs in Dubai. This has powered electric vehicles to cover a cumulative distance of approximately 130 million kilometers.

DEWA offers various features to make charging electric vehicles on its public network more convenient. Upon registering their EV with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai, customers can create an EV Green Charger account with DEWA, enabling them to charge their EV within one hour. Additionally, all customers – including unregistered ones – can utilize the guest mode feature to charge their EVs.

In further support of promoting EV uptake, DEWA has launched the ‘Dubai EV Community Hub’ website. This platform serves as a centralized source for all information related to the EV ecosystem, aiming to encourage more individuals to choose electric vehicles for their transportation needs.
