“Exciting Event Welcomes Western Art Week in Great Falls”

Great Falls, Montana is gearing up for its 55th Western Art Week, set to take place from March 14-17, 2024. The town, with a population of 60,000, is known for coming alive during this annual event. The Western master Charles M. Russell, born in St. Louis on March 19, 1864, spent the latter part of his life in Great Falls until his passing in 1926.

One of the highlights of the event will be the 37th Annual March in Montana Auction & Dealer Show, hosted by Coeur d’Alene Galleries and Coeur d’Alene Art Auction. This event, taking place from March 14-16, will feature 750 lots of Western and sporting art, cowboy and Indian collectibles, Native American weavings, beadwork, artworks by William Gollings, woodcarvings by John L. Clarke, and modern Native American pieces by artists like Jaune “Quick to See” Smith, William Standing, George Flett, and Allan Houser.

Among the lots up for auction is Norman Rockwell’s preliminary oil sketch for a mural currently on display at the Society of Illustrators in Manhattan. The set will include an array of valuable materials such as notes, books, photographs, and magazines that offer insight into the painting.

In addition to the March in Montana Auction, The Russell event organized by the C.M. Russell Museum will also be taking place from March 14-16. This event includes parties, an educational symposium, the First Strike auction featuring contemporary artworks, and a main live auction featuring both historical and modern pieces.

Throughout the Western Art Week, various other activities will be happening in Great Falls including the Out West Art Show & Sale, Legends West Art Show, Great Western Show, Western Heritage Artists — Footprints on the Trail, Studio 706 Spring Show, and Wild Bunch Art Show. The Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art will also be open, showcasing its permanent collection and temporary exhibitions.
