‘Exciting Art Coming to Ashfield’

Art enthusiasts in Ashfield, rejoice! The Mobile Museum is making its way to the district this month, bringing renowned works of art without the need to travel to London. Starting from March 4th, the Art Explora Mobile Museum, in collaboration with Tate and MuMo, will be showcasing authentic pieces of art in Kirkby, Hucknall, and Sutton as part of a 12-week tour.

The unique trailer-designed mobile museum, created by matali crasset, will be presenting the exhibition ‘Soup, Socks, and Spiders! Art of the Everyday’. This exhibition will feature a diverse range of artwork including paintings, drawings, photographs, prints, film, digital art, and sculptures by acclaimed artists such as Andy Warhol, Cornelia Parker, Damien Hirst, and many more.

Residents of Ashfield will have the opportunity to not only view the exhibition for free but also participate in various activities during the Mobile Museum’s visit. Three mini events will be hosted by Ashfield District Council on Saturdays when the museum is in town – March 9th in Kirkby, March 16th in Hucknall, and March 23rd in Sutton. Attendees can enjoy face painting, arts and crafts, and live music by Inspire’s Red Hot Band.

Additionally, schools and community groups will receive guided tours of the exhibitions and workshops conducted by the Mobile Museum team throughout the week. Cllr Jason Zadrozny, Leader of Ashfield District Council, expressed excitement about being one of the nine locations chosen for the tour, emphasizing the value of bringing genuine artwork to local residents who may not have had the opportunity to visit galleries in London.

Helen Legg, Director of Tate Liverpool, highlighted the significance of showcasing national artwork in non-traditional settings to break down barriers and provide meaningful artistic encounters for young people and communities. Frédéric Jousset, Founder of Art Explora, echoed the sentiment by emphasizing the importance of making art accessible to everyone and promoting social justice and cohesion through initiatives like the Mobile Museum.
