Enhancement of Economic Relations between Thailand and the United Arab Emirates at MC13 in Abu Dhabi

Thailand and the United Arab Emirates are forging closer economic ties as they discuss ways to enhance trade and investment cooperation. In a bilateral meeting held during the World Trade Organization Ministerial Conference 13 (MC13) in Abu Dhabi on 1 March 2024, H.E. Mr. Jakkapong Sangmanee, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, joined the discussion between H.E. Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce of Thailand, and H.E. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade from the UAE.

The meeting highlighted the significance of the United Arab Emirates as Thailand’s top trading partner in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, ranking 6th among Thailand’s global trade partners. Both countries recognized the vast potential for collaboration in various sectors such as trade, energy security, technology, science, and healthcare. The aim is to create mutual benefits that will strengthen the economic relationship between the two nations.

The discussions emphasized the desire to further deepen ties between Thailand and the United Arab Emirates, setting the stage for increased cooperation and shared prosperity. This initiative is seen as a positive step towards enhancing economic relations between the two countries.
