‘Dubai’s Finest Homegrown Produce Contest revealed by Dubai Municipal’

Dubai Municipality has announced the launch of the ‘Dubai’s Best Homegrown Produce Competition’ as part of the Dubai Farms program. This initiative aims to support citizen farmers who are active agricultural entrepreneurs and promote local agriculture to enhance food security in the Emirate of Dubai. The competition, in line with Dubai Social Agenda 33, seeks to empower Dubai citizens, increase productivity, and achieve self-sufficiency and economic independence.

The competition, open for registration for one month, will award a total of AED 100,000 to three winners. The first-place winner will also receive the prestigious ‘Dubai’s Best Homegrown Produce Medal’. Winners will be announced in May 2024.

Muhammad Abdul Rahman Al-Awadi, Director of Agriculture Department at Dubai Municipality, emphasized the importance of sustainable local agriculture in ensuring food security and environmental sustainability. The competition aims to promote productive agriculture, environmental sustainability, and self-sufficiency in homegrown produce, while raising awareness about modern agricultural techniques.

Participants can register for the competition through the provided link, submitting details about their garden, cultivation methods, and pictures. Criteria for assessment include environmental sustainability, waste disposal, resource consumption, plant diversity, and innovative ideas. The Dubai Farms Program will provide support services for national farmers, including agricultural extension services, pest control, laboratory tests, and competitive prices for agricultural supplies.

Through initiatives like the ‘Dubai’s Best Homegrown Produce Competition’, Dubai Municipality is committed to promoting local agriculture, enhancing food security, and supporting citizen farmers in their agricultural endeavors. This program aims to boost local production, reduce food wastage, and position Dubai as a global leader in sustainable agriculture.
