Discovering Hidden Musical Talent in Manchester through the Jazz Fest Piano Trail

The Manchester Jazz Festival piano trail is back to showcase the hidden musical talent in the city. Running from Thu 18 Apr to Sun 26 May, this event is a partnership between Forsyth Music Shop and Yamaha Pianos, and is a highlight of the ten-day festival.

The trail will kick off at Piccadilly Train Station on Thu 18 Apr, featuring live performances by local artists and talented students from Chetham’s School of Music. Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, expressed his excitement about bringing music onto the streets of Manchester and providing more opportunities for people to engage with the city’s vibrant music scene.

Fourteen pianos will be placed in locations across the city for passersby to play, with the chance to win a Yamaha p145 piano and other prizes. To participate in the competition, simply find one of the pianos, record a 2-minute performance, and post it on social media with the hashtag #mjfpianotrail2024.

The piano trail locations include popular spots like Manchester Arndale, HOME, and Central Library. In addition to the trail, there will be piano trail walking tours and live performances every Saturday afternoon at Harvey Nichols.

Emma Loat from Forsyth Music Shop encouraged aspiring musicians to take part in the trail and showcase their talent. More information about the piano trail can be found on the Manchester Jazz Festival website.

Don’t miss this opportunity to explore Manchester’s musical culture and maybe even win a fantastic prize. Mark your calendars for the piano trail running from Thu 18 Apr to Sun 26 May at various city center locations.
