‘Dewa employees recycle 7.1 tonnes of plastic bottles and cans in over a year’

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) employees have been making a significant impact on the environment by recycling 499,541 plastic bottles and aluminum cans from October 2022 to December 2023. This impressive effort has diverted 7,108 kilograms of waste from landfills, showcasing DEWA’s commitment to sustainability.

DEWA has implemented smart recycling machines in some of its buildings, allowing employees to easily recycle plastic bottles and aluminum cans using the DEWA Smart Office app. By scanning a QR code on the app, employees can earn points for each recycling operation, giving them a chance to win valuable monthly prizes through a raffle draw. So far, 49 employees have been recognized for their dedication to recycling.

These recycling initiatives by DEWA align with the UAE Circular Economy Policy and DEWA’s Circular Economy Strategy, focusing on optimizing resource usage and creating social, economic, and environmental value. By promoting sustainable practices like recycling and waste reduction, DEWA is contributing to the Dubai Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2021-2041, which aims to foster innovation in waste management and energy conversion.

To further educate and engage employees, DEWA has organized 13 awareness activities emphasizing the importance of adopting a responsible and sustainable lifestyle. These activities encourage sustainable practices at home and in the workplace, promoting efficient electricity and water consumption, waste reduction, and the reuse and recycling of plastic bottles and aluminum cans.

DEWA’s commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation is evident through its ongoing efforts to support a circular economy and promote eco-friendly practices among its employees.
