‘Curating David Lynch’s dreamlike universe at Salone del Mobile’

Salone del Mobile.Milano has undergone a significant evolution in its trade fair model in recent years, focusing on inclusivity, value-driven initiatives, and responsible practices. One of the key changes has been the rethinking of the layout and routes of pavilions, along with a growing cultural programme that includes new forms of experimentation and in-depth study. The 2024 edition of the design exhibition in Milan will feature “Interiors by David Lynch. A Thinking Room,” an immersive installation curated by Italian author Antonio Monda.

Antonio Monda, known for his work in literature and cinema, has a long-standing relationship with David Lynch and describes working with the acclaimed director as exciting and surprising. Lynch is deeply involved in the project, meticulously overseeing every detail to create a unique and immersive experience for visitors. The installation will be the main highlight of this year’s Salone del Mobile, offering a separate and enclosed space for visitors to explore Lynch’s metaphysical thinking in a physical environment.

Monda’s role as the curator is to ensure Lynch’s ideas are effectively communicated to a specific audience, highlighting the connection between Lynch’s work and furniture and interior design. Reflecting on recent trends, Monda notes a growing interest among designers and architects in expressing concepts through video, citing filmmakers like Wes Anderson and Luca Guadagnino who have ventured into designing interiors and furniture.

The collaboration between Monda, Lynch, and Salone del Mobile promises to offer a unique and thought-provoking experience for visitors at the upcoming design festival. As the event approaches, the anticipation for the unveiling of “Interiors by David Lynch. A Thinking Room” continues to grow, setting the stage for a truly immersive and artistic encounter.
