Cross-Border Transfers with Direct Visa Service

Western Union and Visa have recently announced an agreement that includes card issuance, integration with Visa Direct, and the provision of additional value-added services such as risk products. This partnership builds on previous collaborations between the two companies in 2022 and 2019, allowing US and European customers to send or receive funds directly overseas.

Moreover, Western Union customers will now have the opportunity to receive Visa prepaid cards in selected markets as part of a joint disbursement program. This initiative aims to assist humanitarian organizations and governments in delivering critical funds during disasters. Instant payouts will cover emergency and humanitarian needs, cross-border pensions, domestic benefits, and disbursement payouts.

Chris Newkirk, Global Head of Commercial & Money Movement Solutions at Visa, emphasized the significance of secure and accessible payment options for individuals relying on remittances to support their loved ones overseas. He highlighted how Visa’s global reach and Western Union’s digital capabilities are transforming the cross-border payments landscape, offering fast and efficient solutions to more customers.

Sam Jawad, Head of Ecosystem at Western Union, expressed the company’s commitment to providing innovative and accessible financial services that offer flexibility, value, and trust to aspiring populations worldwide. By strengthening their strategic collaboration with Visa, both companies aim to deliver impactful products and services that empower customers to seize opportunities for themselves and their families.
