Costumes Exhibition Featuring ‘Poor Things’ at Benaki Museum with Designer at Pireos Annex on Wednesday

A new exhibition at the Benaki Museum in Kolonaki features twelve costumes from Giorgos Lanthimos’ film “Poor Things.” The exhibition was inaugurated by Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou, showcasing the work of costume designer Holly Waddington.

Waddington, a renowned costume designer with an Oscar and a BAFTA to her name, created six costumes for the character of Bella Baxter, played by Emma Stone, and six others worn by actors such as Willem Dafoe and Mark Ruffalo. The exhibition, titled “Poor Things: The Costumes – In conversation with costume designer Holly Waddington,” will be open to the public from June 12 to September 29, 2024.

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet Waddington on Wednesday evening at the Benaki Museum on Pireos Street. She will engage in a discussion with Dr. Sophia Pantouvaki and Pavlos Thanopoulos, both accomplished set and costume designers. The event will be conducted in English and entrance is free on a first-come, first-served basis.

“Poor Things,” based on a novel by Alasdair Gray, has received critical acclaim, winning Oscars, BAFTAs, and a Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. Waddington described the exhibition as a “beautiful context” for showcasing the costumes, emphasizing the creative freedom she had while working on the film.
