Maldives and UAE Strengthen Bonds of Friendship and Cooperation

High-level discussions took place recently between Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer and Director General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi in Abu Dhabi, showcasing the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the Maldives and the United Arab Emirates.

During the meeting, Minister Zameer expressed gratitude for the strong support extended by the UAE government towards the Maldives. He also highlighted the generous assistance provided by ADFD for various developmental projects in the Maldives, discussing ways to move forward with proposed initiatives.

Specifically, Minister Zameer thanked the UAE for their assistance with the extension of Velana International Airport (VIA), emphasizing that the expansion will enhance connectivity, boost tourist arrivals, and positively impact the economy. Additionally, he provided updates on the development of the Maafaru International Airport project, underscoring the potential for increased investment cooperation through the airport’s expansion.

The meeting was attended by officials from both countries, including Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Shiruzimath Sameer, Deputy Ambassador of the Maldives in Abu Dhabi Hassaan Waheed, and Counsellor of the Maldives in Abu Dhabi Moomina Ibrahim. The discussions reflect the commitment of both nations to further strengthen their ties and collaborate on mutual development goals.
