Construction of a Passenger Station Planned in Sharjah for Etihad Rail
A new passenger train station is set to be built in Sharjah, connecting to the Etihad Rail network. The station will be conveniently located near Sharjah University City, providing easy access to key facilities, landmarks, and residential areas within the emirate and beyond.
With the new station, the number of passengers on the network is expected to increase to around 14,000 per day on weekdays. His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, along with Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Etihad Rail, witnessed the signing of a design-build agreement to connect the main network track to the Sharjah passenger station.
Sheikh Theyab emphasized the importance of this development in enhancing connectivity between residential communities in the Emirates and facilitating passenger movement among the stations in the network. Sharjah’s strategic location connects Dubai with the other northern Emirates, hosting essential centers and landmarks.
Once operational, the Etihad Rail network’s passenger transport service will link 11 cities and regions across the UAE, from Al Sila to Fujairah, including Al Ruwais, Al Mirfa, Fujairah, Sharjah, Al Dhaid, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai. This expansion aims to enhance connectivity across the country and improve transportation services for residents and visitors alike.
