Collaboration on Eco-Friendly, Energy-Saving Networks

e& (formerly known as Etisalat Group) has partnered with Huawei to collaborate on building green and energy-efficient networks in the UAE, aiming to significantly reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable environmental practices. This partnership, solidified with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed during MWC 2024, will focus on achieving network decarbonization across e&’s ICT infrastructure, including radio, core and transport networks, and data centers.

The endeavor to decarbonize the network will involve implementing a combination of Huawei’s energy-efficient technology innovations, intelligent software features, and the utilization of renewable energy sources. The collaboration between e& and Huawei will not only focus on technological advancements but also include knowledge-sharing sessions to address climate change and align network strategies accordingly.

In a groundbreaking move, e& unveiled the region’s first net-zero 5G Massive MIMO site using Huawei technology during COP 28 in December 2023, showcasing a tangible commitment to eco-friendly technology deployment. This initiative is part of e&’s wider ambition to accelerate the transition to net-zero and improve network energy performance to meet Net Zero targets.

Both e& and Huawei are dedicated to green development, with a shared commitment to investing in sustainable projects that support e&’s 2030 net-zero ambition. Sabri Albreiki, Chief Technology Officer of e& International, emphasized the importance of the partnership with Huawei in accelerating the decarbonization of their ICT infrastructure and achieving a greener, more sustainable future.

Echoing this sentiment, Gavin Wang, President of Huawei e& Global Key Account, highlighted the joint commitment of e& and Huawei to climate change and sustainable technology, aiming to lead the telecommunications industry towards a greener future.
