‘Children’s Puppet Festival makes a triumphant return at Little Angel Theatre’

Little Angel Theatre is excited to announce the return of the award-winning Children’s Puppet Festival for its second year from August 2 to September 1, 2024. Following a successful launch in 2023, the festival received a special Offie Award at this year’s Off West End Award Ceremony for its outstanding work in showcasing various styles of puppetry by award-winning companies catering to a wide range of age groups.

Highlights of the festival include two London premieres: a new adaptation of the classic book ‘The Little Prince’ by Lyngo Theatre Company and the innovative show ‘Minny Stynker’ by Soap Soup Theatre, utilizing projection mapping and augmented reality for the first time at Little Angel.

Additionally, award-winning artist Sam Wilde’s company Cardboard Adventures will be returning with their interactive show ‘Boxville’. The festival will also feature imaginative productions such as ‘Claytime’ and ‘Under the Little Red Moon’ by English Touring Opera, promising unique sensory experiences for audiences of all ages.

Little Angel is proud to support the marionette craft by showcasing String Theatre’s ‘Lottie, The Travelling Doll’, one of the most exciting marionette companies in the UK. The festival will also feature puppetry styles fused with magic, mime, classic children’s stories, and interactive zoo experiences, among others.

In addition to the performances, Little Angel will offer a range of family and adult activities throughout August, including Puppet Playcations, craft workshops, puppet making courses, introduction to puppetry sessions, and the Open House Festival in September.

Little Angel’s production of Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book will continue its national tour, visiting co-producing venues The Lowry in Salford and Rose Theatre in Kingston this summer.

Oliver Hymans, Little Angel Associate Artist and curator of the Children’s Puppet Festival, expressed his excitement for this year’s festival lineup, stating, “Once again the festival is an opportunity to showcase the amazing breadth of the versatile artform of puppetry. We were thrilled to win an award for the inaugural year, and we believe we have programmed an equally exciting lineup of artists and companies for this season.”
