Chaka Khan unable to accept Glastonbury legends slot

Funk legend Chaka Khan has had to decline Glastonbury’s legendary slot this year due to her role as the curator of the Meltdown festival at London’s Southbank Centre. The 71-year-old icon follows in the footsteps of music legends such as David Bowie, Grace Jones, and Yoko Ono in this prestigious role.

Despite having to turn down the offer from Glastonbury organizers Michael and Emily Eavis, Chaka expressed her desire to perform at the world-famous festival in 2025. She shared with The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column that she would love the opportunity to headline at Glastonbury in the future.

The Sunday afternoon slot dedicated to music icons at Glastonbury was ultimately filled by 58-year-old Shania Twain, who will join headliners SZA, Dua Lipa, and Coldplay at the event. Meanwhile, the Meltdown festival, scheduled from June 14 to 23, promises a funky and soulful experience curated by Chaka Khan.

As part of the festival lineup, Chaka will celebrate her 50-year music career since her debut album ‘Rufus’ in 1973. Known for hits like ‘I’m Every Woman,’ the disco-era classic, Chaka has released 13 solo albums to date.

Fans can catch Chaka Khan live at various UK shows this summer, including a performance at the Nocturne Live concert series at Blenheim Palace on June 13.
