‘Celebratory atmosphere as Sanusi to Emir’s Palace’

The newly crowned Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, made a grand entrance into the palace on Saturday, officially becoming the 16th Emir of Kano. The palace was filled with a multitude of dignitaries, traditional rulers, businessmen, and well-wishers who had gathered to pay their respects and offer their congratulations to the Emir.

Dressed in his traditional attire, Emir Sanusi was welcomed with the customary fanfare, marking the beginning of a new era for the Kano Emirate. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as attendees expressed their delight and unwavering support for the Emir, showcasing his immense popularity and the high regard in which he is held by the people of Kano and beyond.

Emir Sanusi is expected to leverage his wisdom, experience, and leadership skills to promote peace, stability, and development in the state as he assumes his new role. This comes after his previous deposition by the then Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, who had also established four other Emirates in Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye.

The Kano State House of Assembly recently passed the Kano Emirates Council Law (repeal bill) in 2024, paving the way for Emir Sanusi’s return and the nullification of the new Emirates. However, a Federal High Court in Kano has temporarily halted Sanusi’s reinstatement, a decision that the Kano Police Command has pledged to abide by. Despite the legal complexities surrounding his return, Emir Sanusi’s triumphant entrance to the palace signifies a significant moment in the history of the Kano Emirate.
