‘Celebrating Mark Twain’s Impact on African Americans and Society at Festival’

Mark Twain Days, a celebration of the famous writer’s legacy, will feature a special event on May 10, 2024, at 12:00pm. The event will showcase Michael Smith, a native Mississippian, who has dedicated his life to education and public service.

Smith earned his Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Rust College in Holly Springs, MS, and his Master’s degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from the University of Mississippi. Over the years, he has received numerous awards and recognitions for his work on both a local and state level.

Known for his advocacy for the arts and humanities, Smith is the founder and President of the Northern Nevada Cultural Foundation, a 501c-3 organization that aims to promote cultural enrichment in the community.
