Celebrating International Women’s Day at Waterside

Waterside in Manchester is celebrating International Women’s Day 2024 with a dynamic lineup of events and exhibitions designed to spark inspiration. The schedule includes two captivating photographic exhibitions, an evening of theatre in development, a musical performance highlighting pioneering women, as well as talks and workshops led, created, or inspired by female and female-identifying artists.

One of the featured photography exhibitions, “Deeds, Not Words” by Denise Laura Baker, showcases women in activism through a series of portraits. Another exhibition, “Hope. Despair. Miracles.” by Roxana Allison, utilizes portraits, landscapes, and written word to spotlight the diverse neighborhood of Longsight, shedding light on its social complexities. Both exhibitions are free and will be open until 13 April.

For ticketed events, don’t miss “HerStories” on Friday 15 March, an evening of song and storytelling with songwriter and performer Louise Jordan. This event will delve into the stories of history’s often-overlooked pioneering women alongside personal tales from Jordan’s solo artist journey. Additionally, there will be a theatre-in-development scratch night on Monday 4 March, hosted by comedian and performer Amy Vreeke, showcasing new works from talented female theatre-makers in the region.
