Bronx Zoo Celebrates 125 Years with Animal Chronicles Exhibit and Birthday Bash

The Bronx Zoo, which is marking its 125th anniversary in 2024, is gearing up for a grand celebration on April 18th with the unveiling of its newest exhibit, Animal Chronicles. This immersive experience takes visitors on a journey through a quarter-mile walking trail featuring 68 eco-sculptures spread out across 13 different scenes. Each scene tells a unique story highlighting the zoo’s commitment to animal care, conservation efforts, innovative exhibit designs, and global wildlife protection initiatives.

The opening event will offer an exclusive sneak peek of the exhibit, along with a series of themed weekend activities dedicated to celebrating the Zoo’s success stories in species preservation over the past 125 years. Visitors can look forward to entertainment elements such as music, dance performances, and wildlife puppetry.

The birthday celebration and exhibit preview will take place at the Bronx Zoo Fountain Circle off Fordham Road. Media representatives are advised to park at the Fordham Road Gate for check-in. The event is scheduled to kick off on Thursday, April 18th, with a cake cutting ceremony marking the official start of the festivities ahead of the public opening on April 20th.

Jim Breheny, Director of the Bronx Zoo and WCS EVP of Zoos & Aquarium, as well as elected officials, will be in attendance at the event, making it a momentous occasion for the zoo and wildlife conservation efforts.

In addition to the launch of Animal Chronicles, the Bronx Zoo has planned a series of celebratory activities from April through September, inviting visitors to enjoy parades, performances, crafting, Wildlife Theater, and more on select weekends. Each event is designed to engage and educate visitors while honoring the zoo’s legacy and commitment to wildlife conservation.
