BMW’s Electric Vehicle Sales Surge, Representing 13% of Total U.S. Sales This Year

BMW experienced a significant increase in the sales of electric vehicles in the U.S. market, with a 62% surge compared to the previous year. This surge has boosted the overall EV sales from BMW to now make up 13% of all its U.S. sales this year.

During the first quarter of 2024, BMW sold 10,713 units of its i4s, i5s, i7s, and iXs, contributing to the impressive 12.7% of total sales being electric vehicles. Overall, Americans purchased 84,475 BMW vehicles during this period, showing a 2.4% increase in sales compared to the same quarter in 2023.

BMW’s success in the U.S. market can be attributed to its diverse lineup, which includes EVs, hybrids, and internal combustion vehicles. According to BMW North America CEO, Sebastian Mackensen, the brand’s success is driven by the quality of its vehicles and the variety offered to customers.

The increase in passenger car sales, particularly the X1, as well as the strong demand for the BMW 2 Series, contributed significantly to BMW’s positive performance in the first quarter. However, sales of other X series vehicles like the X4, X5, and X6 declined during this period.

On the other hand, Mini, a subsidiary of BMW, faced challenges in the U.S. market with sales declining for every model in its portfolio during the first quarter of 2024. Despite introducing a new lineup of vehicles, Mini experienced a 12.6% drop in sales compared to the previous year.

Overall, BMW’s success in the U.S. market reflects the growing demand for electric vehicles and the brand’s ability to offer a diverse range of products to cater to customer preferences.
