“Azerbaijan and OPEC to have important discussion before COP29”

Azerbaijan and the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) are set to engage in a high-level dialogue today in Vienna in preparation for COP29 in Baku. The OPEC secretariat announced that OPEC Secretary General Haitham al-Ghais will welcome the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan and President-designate of COP29 in Vienna. This dialogue aims to prepare for the upcoming COP29 event scheduled for November in Baku.
The meeting, chaired by Mukhtar Babayev and Haitham al-Ghais, will bring together senior officials from both OPEC and non-OPEC countries participating in the OPEC+ Cooperation Charter. According to the OPEC statement, this dialogue will provide a platform for all delegates to actively engage with the COP29 President in a constructive and inclusive manner.
COP29, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, is set to take place in Baku, Azerbaijan in November 2024. The decision to host COP29 in Baku was finalized during the COP28 plenary meeting in Dubai on December 11, 2023. The event is expected to welcome around 80,000 foreign guests to Baku for discussions and negotiations on crucial climate change issues.
