Avoid the Oscars and check out these documentaries focused on photography.

This weekend, as the Oscars take center stage in the entertainment world, we at the editorial team have put together a DPReview film festival celebrating our favorite star: photography!

Last year, we featured fictional films starring cameras for a hypothetical single-day film festival that you could enjoy from the comfort of your own home. This time around, we are shifting our focus to real-life stories captured in documentary films.

Documentaries about photographers, the essence of photography, and exploration of the motivations that drive creators offer a treasure trove of learning and inspiration. These films can provide insight and possibly even life lessons.

We have curated a selection of seven documentaries and one interview to mix things up. While this list may not cover every fantastic documentary out there, we have carefully chosen each entry to create a cohesive and impactful viewing experience. Our aim is to showcase films that we genuinely enjoyed and that fit well together for a hypothetical single-day film festival – that’s the DPReview way.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
