Emirates Receives Certified Autism Center Designation Plaques for Dubai Check In Facilities

Emirates has been officially recognized for its efforts in creating inclusive and accessible travel experiences for neurodiverse customers. The International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) awarded certification plaques to all four of Emirates’ Dubai Check In facilities.

The plaques were presented by Myron Pincomb, CEO and Board Chairman of IBCCES, and received by Mohammed Mattar, Emirates DSVP Airport Services, and his team, along with representatives from Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET).

To achieve this designation, Emirates employees at the facilities underwent specialized training on autism and sensory awareness. This training equipped them with the necessary skills to cater to the needs of autistic travelers and those with sensory sensitivities, as well as their families.

Comprehensive audits were conducted across the facilities to assess sensory inputs such as sound levels, lighting, and other environmental factors. This information was used to create sensory guides to help travelers make informed decisions about the best environment for their needs.

This achievement further solidifies Dubai International Airport’s recognition as the first international airport to receive the Certified Autism Center Designation from IBCCES. It also aligns with DET’s vision of becoming the first Certified Autism Destination in the Middle East.

Emirates’ City Check-Ins across Dubai offer a seamless and stress-free pre-airport experience for customers. Services include checking in for flights up to 24 hours in advance, luggage drop-off between four and 24 hours before departure, and a choice of agent-assisted, robot-assisted, or self-service kiosk check-ins.

Through collaboration with various authorities including the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs, Dubai Police, Dubai Airports, and Dubai Customs, Emirates is working towards making travel more inclusive and accessible for all individuals. This aligns with Dubai’s commitment to becoming a leading destination for travelers with diverse needs.

IBCCES has also launched AutismTravel.com, a free online resource that lists certified destinations and connects families to resources and other families with similar needs. All destinations listed on the site have met the requirements for Certified Autism Centers.
