Attention all young photographers in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire

A digital photography competition aimed at young people aged 13-18 is set to launch during the annual Light the Blue Festival 2024, running from June 8 to June 16. The competition, organized by Gray’s School of Art’s Look Again and Mobile Art School in partnership with Light the Blue Festival led by Aberdeen Performing Arts (APA), encourages young individuals from Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire to capture photos on their mobile phones that represent the theme ‘everyone is welcome here’ in the North East.

Selected photographs will be printed and displayed at Aberdeen’s Music Hall and other APA venues during the festival. The competition will recognize outstanding digital photographs in Landscape, Portraiture, Documentary, Abstract, and a Candid snapshot categories. Sally Reaper, Director of Look Again at Gray’s School of Art, emphasized the importance of celebrating inclusivity and diversity through photography to showcase the rich tapestry of Aberdeen’s community.

Jordan Blackwood, Creative Producer for Light the Blue at Aberdeen Performing Arts, expressed excitement about the partnership with Look Again and the opportunity for young people in the region to showcase their talents. To enter the competition, participants must be between 13-18 years old, based in Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire, and submit a digital photograph that reflects the theme ‘everyone is welcome here’.

Entries should be emailed with the subject line ‘CAPTURE’ to the provided email address by May 27 at 5pm. Submissions must be no larger than 2MB and adhere to the guidelines outlined for the competition. Additionally, Gray’s School of Art will be hosting guided tours of their Degree Show for young people aged 14-25 during the festival to inspire curiosity and explore opportunities in the arts.
