Anticipated Security Delays at Newark Airport Over Memorial Day Weekend. Check Affected Gates Here.

Newark Airport in New Jersey is undergoing security upgrades, which may cause delays for travelers over the next few weeks. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has issued an advisory warning passengers of potential longer wait times due to the installation of new screening technology.

According to TSA officials, construction and maintenance activities at the airport may lead to temporary inconvenience for travelers. Lanes at security checkpoints in Terminal A will be closed from May 6 to May 10, followed by closures at Terminal B from May 13 to June 21. While the work is not scheduled for Memorial Day weekend, it will impact some gates around the holiday.

To minimize delays, the TSA recommends that travelers using Terminal A arrive at least two hours before their departure, while those using Terminal B should arrive three hours early. The affected gates at Terminal B include those serving Alaska, Spirit, Emirates, Lufthansa, and other international carriers.

Newark Airport recently completed a significant renovation at Terminal A, contributing to the ongoing improvements in security infrastructure. Travelers can check real-time security wait times on the airport’s website to stay informed about potential delays.

Overall, the airport is working closely with contractors to ensure minimal inconvenience for passengers, but travelers should plan ahead and allow for extra time during this period of security upgrades.
