‘Analysis of 13th WTO Ministerial Meeting in Abu Dhabi’

The Thirteenth Session of the World Trade Organization Ministerial Conference (MC13) held in Abu Dhabi from February 26th to March 1st has yielded positive outcomes, according to American Chemistry Council (ACC) Director of International Trade and Supply Chain, Jason Bernstein.

ACC and its members have commended the WTO for taking a constructive approach to Trade & Environment (T&E) issues during the conference. Discussions surrounding the Dialogue on Plastic Pollution and Trade and Environment Sustainability Structured Discussions (TESSD) have been seen as promising steps towards promoting trade and investment in economic models that prioritize environmental solutions and economic growth.

“We are pleased to see the emphasis placed on regulatory cooperation to mitigate unnecessary barriers to trade, which can hinder both U.S. and international competitiveness as well as supply chain resilience,” Bernstein stated.

The extension of the moratorium on e-commerce duties has also been welcomed by the ACC. They recognize the critical role that digital trade, reliant on the free flow of data across borders, plays in supporting chemical manufacturers and advanced manufacturing processes required to address climate change and enhance environmental sustainability. This move is seen as beneficial in strengthening downstream industries supported by the chemical sector.
