Agreement reached for geothermal energy project in St Kitts-Nevis
The Prime Minister’s office announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to kickstart a clean energy project in St. Kitts and Nevis. This agreement marks the beginning of feasibility studies, proposal planning, and technical documentation necessary for the project’s commencement.
Dr. Drew, in a statement regarding the MoU, expressed gratitude to the signing parties for their dedication to the Federation and their trust in the Government to facilitate such a groundbreaking investment in the country. Dr. Drew emphasized that St. Kitts and Nevis aims to become the world’s first Green Country, setting an example for others to follow. As Prime Minister, Dr. Drew took on the responsibility of leading this initiative.
During the signing event, Dr. Tajeddine Seif, Chairman of the K&K Group, reiterated the firm’s commitment to excellence, partnership, and urgency in harnessing the geothermal resources of the islands. Dr. Seif highlighted recent extreme weather events, such as flooding in Dubai, as a call to action for the world to prioritize sustainable energy solutions. He commended Dr. Drew for taking proactive steps in response to these global challenges.
Siemens Energy, a company specializing in integrated energy technology, will provide support throughout the energy value chain for this project. Their focus is on developing low- or zero-emission power generation, energy transportation, and storage, with the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption in industrial processes.
