Additional attractions for visitors on narrow gauge railways in Wales

Exciting new attractions are coming to the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways this spring and summer, offering visitors a unique experience.

One of the highlights is the Model Railway Workshop at Minffordd Station on Saturday, 18th and Sunday, 19th May. This workshop will showcase different model layouts and provide tips and demonstrations for aspiring model makers. Admission is £4 for adults and £1 for under-12s. For beer enthusiasts, the Rail Ale festival will be held on Friday, 7th and Saturday, 8th June at Dinas station. Visitors can indulge in a selection of real ales and ciders while enjoying live music performances. Food options such as burgers, pizzas, and curries will also be available. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door for the festival, which is open from 11:00 to 23:00 both days.

Additionally, a series of ‘How do Steam Engines Work’ workshops will be held at Boston Lodge until the end of August. These workshops, part of the Interpretation & Boston Lodge Project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, offer a hands-on experience to learn about steam engines and even drive one. Each workshop costs £27 and promises a unique educational opportunity.

Later in the summer, visitors can join an official Guided Tour of Boston Lodge to delve deeper into the history of the historic engineering works. Led by knowledgeable railway volunteers, these tours will uncover the stories behind the works and the railway over the past 200 years.
