A mass event in which a city obtained passports

The percentage of Americans without passports has decreased significantly over the years, but a lack of knowledge about passport requirements continues to hinder international travel for many. The Covid-19 pandemic also led to a backlog at passport offices as more people sought to obtain passports post-pandemic.
To address these issues, the U.S. State Department organized a “Passport Acceptance Event” in New Orleans. Residents of Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional District were invited to complete passport applications on-site with the help of staff and government workers. This event aimed to expedite the process for those eligible for U.S. citizenship, providing assistance in filling out forms and ensuring all necessary documents were in order.
Participants at the event were promised expedited processing of two to three weeks, a significant improvement over the usual six to eight weeks. While the exact number of applicants is undisclosed, photos from the event indicate a strong turnout and a positive response to the opportunity for group application and quicker processing.
In 2024, the United Arab Emirates received recognition as having the most powerful passport, offering visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 180 countries. In comparison, American passport holders currently have similar access to 151 countries. The decline in ranking for the U.S. passport is attributed to strained international relations and stricter immigration policies, highlighting the importance of staying informed about passport requirements for global travel.
