Azerbaijan to Host COP29 with Strong International Support
President Ilham Aliyev expressed his gratitude for the unanimous support of the international community in the decision to hold COP29 in Azerbaijan. This decision is seen as a clear indication of the confidence the world has in Azerbaijan.
The announcement was made during a meeting where President Aliyev received the co-chairs of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, Vayra Vike-Freibergan and Ismail Serageldin, along with former heads of state and government, and members of the Center’s Management Board.
Having just completed its chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, President Aliyev highlighted Azerbaijan’s active role and representation in various international organizations, stating that this provides a solid foundation for a successful COP29 leadership.
President Aliyev emphasized Azerbaijan’s commitment to addressing climate change on a global scale and supporting the green transition process with the country’s national efforts. He stressed the importance of all countries coming together to prevent global temperatures from rising more than 1.5 degrees.
Focused on the topic of climate financing, COP29 will see Azerbaijan working alongside the United Arab Emirates and Brazil in a “troika” format. President Aliyev pledged to mobilize all necessary international efforts towards this goal, showing his determination to make a significant impact in the fight against climate change.
