Robinhood completes acquisition of Bitstamp crypto exchange

Robinhood Markets, Inc., a well-known trading platform, has recently announced its plans to acquire cryptocurrency exchange Bitstamp Ltd. in a deal valued at approximately 0 million in cash. The acquisition is set to close in the first half of 2025, pending regulatory approvals and other closing conditions.

This strategic move is expected to fast-track Robinhood Crypto’s global expansion efforts, as Bitstamp currently holds over 50 active licenses and registrations worldwide and boasts a diverse customer base across regions like the EU, UK, US, and Asia. Additionally, this acquisition will mark Robinhood’s entry into the institutional business sector, leveraging Bitstamp’s established relationships with institutional clients and its offering of services like white-label solutions, institutional lending, and staking.

Bitstamp’s spot exchange, supporting more than 85 tradable assets, will be integrated into Robinhood’s existing crypto offering, along with its staking and lending products. The Bitstamp team is set to join Robinhood, facilitating collaboration and knowledge sharing across continents.

Johann Kerbrat, General Manager of Robinhood Crypto, expressed that this acquisition represents a significant advancement for the company’s crypto business, positioning them for international expansion and the inclusion of institutional customers. JB Graftieaux, CEO of Bitstamp, emphasized Bitstamp’s reputation as the longest-running cryptocurrency exchange, recognized for its trustworthiness and transparency in the global crypto market. He highlighted the enhanced trading experience users can expect from bringing Bitstamp’s platform and expertise into Robinhood’s ecosystem.

Assurances have been given by both companies that users will continue to receive the same level of service, security, and reliability post-acquisition. Barclays Capital Inc. and Galaxy Digital Partners LLC acted as the exclusive financial advisors to Robinhood and Bitstamp, respectively.
