‘Exciting Book Festival Showcases Women Authors with Fresh Perspectives and Innovative Voices’

Women Writing for (a) Change Jacksonville is gearing up for its second annual Author Showcase and Book Festival on Sunday, June 4, 2022. The event is set to take place at the Winston Family YMCA in Jacksonville, Florida, to bring together readers and female writers in a celebration of diverse voices.

The festival aims to provide a platform for marginalized voices amidst a backdrop of book banning incidents in schools and libraries in Duval County. With the support of local sponsors, Women Writing for (a) Change Jax is organizing a family-friendly event that will feature over 35 authors, children’s reading rooms, and discussions on the impact of book banning in Florida.

Special guests at the festival include Leah Wolchok, who co-directed the documentary “Judy Blume Forever,” and Nina Perez representing MomsRising. The lineup also includes Elizabeth Anderson from the Florida Freedom to Read Project and the Public School Defenders, along with renowned artist Dr. Lisa Meeks.

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with authors, purchase books, attend readings, and participate in activities to support the freedom to read. Jennifer Wolfe, Executive Director of Women Writing for (a) Change Jacksonville, emphasized the importance of amplifying diverse voices and supporting authors in light of book banning issues.
