Everything You Need to Know About the Met Gala 2024: From Theme to Guest List

Fashion enthusiasts around the world are eagerly anticipating the highly anticipated Met Gala, set to take place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. This extravagant affair, happening on the first Monday of May, brings together luminaries from the realms of fashion, art, and culture to showcase their exquisite creations by top designers.

Throughout its history, the Met Gala has become known for its groundbreaking themes that leave a lasting impact on fashion history. From the rebellious “Punk: Chaos to Couture” in 2013 to the elegant tribute to Karl Lagerfeld in 2023, each theme has pushed boundaries. This year, the Costume Institute presents “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” along with the dress code “The Garden of Time.”

The exhibition will feature garments spanning over 400 years, including works from iconic designers like Dior, Givenchy, and Schiaparelli. Some pieces, too delicate to be worn again, will be showcased through video animation and light projection.

The official dress code for the 2024 Met Gala is “The Garden of Time,” inspired by J.G. Ballard’s short story. It celebrates nature and the emotional essence of fashion, with the exhibit displaying rare items from the Costume Institute’s collection.

The guest list remains exclusive, with around 600 attendees being chosen. However, the list is closely guarded and will only be revealed on the evening before the event. Regular attendees like Rihanna, Gigi Hadid, and members of the Kardashian and Jenner family are expected, along with top designers. Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth will be hosting the event, adding to the excitement.

Fashion enthusiasts can catch the red carpet arrivals via live stream on Vogue.com and other digital platforms on May 6th. The anticipation is high as designers prepare to interpret the theme and dress code for this year’s Met Gala.
