“Henning Larsen Secures Victory in Grieg Quarter concert hall competition in Norway”

Henning Larsen has emerged as the winner of an international competition to design a new concert hall in Bergen, Norway. The winning entry, called ‘Kontrapunkt,’ beat out four other finalists in the Grieg Quarter competition. This vision includes a 17,500-square-meter music hall and conference center with a theater, exhibition hall, and outdoor spaces being restored.

The competition was launched to create a new cultural quarter around the existing Grieghallen, set to be completed by 2030. The jury chair, Anne-Grete Strøm-Erichsen, praised the design for rejuvenating the area and creating a dynamic urban hub that will enhance Bergen’s cultural landscape.

Henning Larsen’s winning design will feature a 1,000-person capacity hall, a 140-seat amphitheater, rehearsal areas, and over 40,000 square feet of exhibition space with a concertgoers’ café. Charcoal Blue and engineering partner Rambøll will assist in delivering the project.

Kasper Kyndesen, the Design Director for Henning Larsen’s Norway operations, expressed pride in winning the prestigious competition. He stated that the Grieg Quarter project will solidify Bergen’s position as a city of culture, unlocking vast cultural potential for both the city and the quarter.
