50th Anniversary of WCLK to be Celebrated at Atlanta Jazz Festival with Lil John Roberts

WCLK Jazz 91.9 FM first hit the airwaves on April 10, 1974, and this year marks its 50th anniversary of broadcasting from the campus of Clark Atlanta University.

To celebrate this milestone, the Atlanta Jazz Festival will be presenting the concert event “WCLK AT 50: Featuring Lil John Roberts with an Atlanta All-Star Band.” Renowned drummer Lil John Roberts will lead a band of talented Atlanta musicians, including Phil Davis, Rodney Edge, Tres Gilbert, Derek Scott, Miguel Gaeten, Melvin Jones, Joe Gransden, Kebbi Williams, Jamel Mitchell, Mike Burton, Saunders Sermons, and Daniel Wytanis.

The concert will also feature special guest performances from Kathleen Bertrand, Cleveland Jones, Rhonda Thomas, Imani Grace-Cooper, Julie Dexter, Tony Hightower, Dashill Smith, and Alexandra Jackson. Jon Goode will serve as the Narrator, sharing stories about the history and legacy of WCLK. Lil John Robert will act as the concert’s music director.

Audiences can expect to enjoy a mix of timeless jazz classics from the 1930s to contemporary hits. Songs like “Maiden Voyage,” “I Got Rhythm,” “So What,” and “Take 5” will be performed alongside modern compositions such as “Watermelon Man,” “Everybody Loves The Sunshine,” “Dominoes,” and “Rise.”
