“2024 Spring Music Festival Showcases Guest Composer”

The University of Toledo’s Department of Music is proud to present the 2024 Spring Festival of New Music, featuring two concerts showcasing the works of renowned composer Stacey V. Gibbs.

This annual festival will kick off with the Large Ensembles Concert on Thursday, April 4 at 7 p.m., followed by the High School and Community Choral Concert on Saturday, April 6 at 5:30 p.m. Both concerts are free and open to the public, taking place at Doermann Theatre in University Hall.

Parking permits will not be required after 5 p.m. on Saturday, however, reserved, disabled, metered, and patient parking spaces will still be enforced. For Thursday’s concert, parking can be paid for through the ParkMobile app, a parking meter, or with a daily permit via ParkUToledo.

Stacey V. Gibbs, a resident of Detroit, is a highly regarded composer, arranger, and clinician known for his exceptional arrangements of spirituals. His music has been featured at numerous national choral festivals and conventions, with one of his pieces performed at President Barack Obama’s 57th Inaugural Service.

The UToledo choirs, along with the symphonic wind ensemble and orchestra ensembles, will showcase a program featuring works by contemporary composers, including Gibbs, in the Large Ensembles Concert. Additionally, Gibbs will collaborate with high school and community singers in the High School and Community Choral Concert, following a day of coaching and rehearsals with the composer.
