Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection (BHTP) has released its ninth annual State of Travel Insurance Safest Destinations report, revealing the top countries and cities deemed safest for travelers. This report is a comprehensive and trusted research project that monitors U.S. travelers’ opinions on travel safety and insurance.
According to the latest findings, Canada, Switzerland, and Norway have taken the lead as the top three safest countries for travelers, surpassing previous top contenders Netherlands, Denmark, and Iceland. While these countries remain within the top ten, this year’s rankings have seen a shift in the top three spots. Canada, in particular, has claimed the top spot as the safest destination, despite not being in the top five last year.
In a surprising turn, this year’s list of Top 15 Safest Cities includes two U.S. cities, with Honolulu ranking first and Orlando in the 15th spot. Traditionally, the rankings have been dominated by Scandinavian nations, Northern Europe, and English-speaking countries in Oceania. However, this year, Asian and South American nations like Japan and Brazil have made it to the top 15 list.
The research behind the State of Travel Insurance report is conducted annually by Polymath Research + Marketing, involving thousands of consumers surveyed on travel insurance and travel habits. The rankings of safest countries and cities are determined by an index that consolidates data from various sources, including the U.S. State Department, The Economist, safety-app creator GeoSure Global, and others.
Among the Top 15 Safest Countries listed are Canada, Switzerland, Norway, Ireland, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Portugal, Denmark, Iceland, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, France, Spain, and Brazil. The Top 15 Safest Cities include Honolulu, Montreal, Reykjavik, Sydney, Amsterdam, Dubai, Copenhagen, London, Seoul, Venice, Tokyo, Berlin, Paris, Barcelona, and Orlando.
