133rd Annual Exhibition of The Royal Society of Portrait Painters to be Held at Mall Galleries

The Royal Society of Portrait Painters’ Annual Exhibition is an esteemed event that has been running for 133 years and is currently being held at the renowned Mall Galleries in London. The exhibition showcases a curated collection of painted and drawn portraits from both national and international artists, selected by acclaimed portrait painters rather than the art establishment or media figures.

This exhibition is a platform for both established portrait artists and emerging talents to display their work, making it a significant forum for portrait art in Europe. Many of the pieces on display are available for purchase, offering a unique opportunity to acquire future portrait masterpieces. In addition, visitors can commission their own portraits from the exhibiting artists through the Portrait Commission service.

The Royal Society of Portrait Painters’ Annual Exhibition is a historic and prestigious event, featuring around 230 carefully selected portraits by members of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. Artists from around the world submit their work for a chance to win awards totaling £40,000, including the William Lock Portrait Prize and the Ondaatje Prize for Portraiture, among others.

President of The Royal Society of Portrait Painters, Anthony Connolly PRP, describes the exhibition as a space that welcomes both established and emerging talent, showcasing a diverse range of styles and interpretations. The event also offers visitors the opportunity to meet with representatives from the RP’s commissioning service for personalized consultations.

The exhibition will run from Thursday 9th May to Saturday 18th May at the Mall Galleries in London, with daily opening hours from 10am to 5pm (extended until 7pm on Thursdays). Admission is £5, with free entry for Friends of Mall Galleries and individuals under 25, as well as concessions available. The artwork will also be available for viewing and purchase online on the Mall Galleries website.
